Summary/Abstract: The practice of adoption is mainly mentioned in documents through the expression “taking into one’s heart” and it has as main purpose ensuring the posterity and transmitting the patrimony. We analyzed first of all the juridical dispositions and then the preserved documents referring to this practice, trying to outline the importance of this gesture in the Moldavian medieval society and the nature of the reasons which determined the individual to choose this lineage manner.
