Summary/Abstract: On the 16th of November, 1979, the Hungarian Company of the National Theatre in Subotica staged Zsigmond Móricz’s work I Can’t Live Without Music, directed by Ferenc Sík. This paper, following the methodology of Philther, by using texts created by professionals and the public as primary sources, determines the relevance of the performance from the aspect of the theatre- and reception history of the Subotica theatre, reconstructs it, and analyzes the arguments provoked by its ambivalent reception.
