Summary/Abstract: Galen is well known for his extensive writings on all topics concerning medicine. However, we do not have much information about his abilities as an instructor. Scattered throughout the Galenic texts may be found indications of his ideas concerning educational methods and beliefs. In the treatises Adhortatio ad artes addiscendas, De optima doctrina liber, Quod optimus medians fit quoque philosophus and De sectis ad eos qui introductur in particular, Galen analyses the moral behavior and the educational background that in his view were necessary for any new physician in order to practice medicine.
