Transfer operations of realia in Chekhov’s Ward No. 6.

Summary/Abstract: This paper is devoted to examine the translation operations used to render realia in 2 Hungarian translations of Chekhov’s Ward No. 6. After the discussion of the possible meanings of the term culture a short review is given on the interpretations of realia. The relevance of the translators’ cultural competence is emphasized, as well. In a separate chapter the translations of realia are presented.
