Summary/Abstract: This article considers the strategies for rendering the realia into the target language in translation. In translation theory, realia are phrases and expressions that are closely linked to a particular national culture and have no equivalent in the target language. In this paper, I examine the translation operations used to render religious realia in three Hungarian translations of Dostoevsky’s Crime and Punishment. After the review of the possible interpretations of the concept realia, I present the source works used for the analysis, and the translators as well. In another chapter, I describe the translation operations used to render religious realia. As a result of the study, it can be concluded that domestication is the typical strategy of translation realia in the three Hungarian translations.
