Summary/Abstract: The Paschal Mystery, that is, passion, death and resurrection represents the culmination of the life and saving work of Jesus. These are events that the Church celebrates in a particular way in the Easter Triduum, from the evening of Holy Thursday until the Sunday of the Resurrection. Matthew presents us with an ecclesial and doctrinal account. Through a clear style he helps us to understand the facts with the intelligence that comes from the faith of the community. In Jesus of Nazareth all the prophecies dedicated to the Messiah, to the suffering Servant, to the one whom the history of the biblical people expected and who justified the existence of the people themselves, are fulfilled. The paschal mystery was and must always be at the centre of theological and ecclesial life. In the constitution on the liturgy, Sacrosanctum Concilium, he found a stronger expression of the paschal mystery, forming the very core of the Christian salvific order.
