Summary/Abstract: The subject of the paper is the formal and quantitative analysis of different types of neologisms distinguished in the thematic field of FOOD. The first step was to separate continuous units and discontinuous units on the basis of the formal (orthographic) criterion. Within continuous units, there were distinguished: borrowings (also sorted according to the criterion of the level of assimilation), word-formation neologisms (relations between simple derivation and composition were shown) and neosemantisms. Within discontinuous units, neophraseologisms, open compounds, semantic neologisms and lexemes were analyzed. The conclusion was to indicate the structure of categories in the analyzed thematic field. The author tries to answer the question of how the place of the field in the Polish lexical system influences the types of neological units appearing in the field.
