Summary/Abstract: Quantitative and qualitative participation of compound formations in derivational nests of Polish nouns is the subject of the present paper. The author reminds basic rules and terms concerning the description of compound formations within the nest method. Moreover, he presents the list of models which occur in the nests of Polish nouns and analyses relations between the models of simple derivates and those of compound words. The author points out the difference between simple derivates which do not pass the stadium of composition in their ‘derivational history’ (as abstynent-ka [teetotaller (about a woman)]) and those of compound bases (as czwor-o-kąt-(ø) - czworokąt-ny - czworokątń-e [quadrangle - quadrangul-ar - in a quadrangular way]). The former are being called unreal simple derivates whereas the latter – real simple derivates. However, the graph of nominal nests constitutes the main tool of analysis. All the arms of the graph (both those that have extremely extended structure, such as the nominal one [S,S], the verbal one [S,V] and the adjectival one [S,Ad], and those less complicated, such as the adverbial one [S,Adv] and the numeral one [S,N]) are thoroughly analysed. The author concentrates on derivational nodes and stems that constitute directive and non-directive proves of the participation of composition in the nests described.
