Summary/Abstract: The paper presents another case study provided by archaeological investigations following the building of a motorway in the vicinity of the archaeological site of Sutor. The research area targeted the vicus adjacent to the Roman auxiliary fort of Optatiana in the province of Dacia (today, Sutor, Sălaj County, Romania). The analysis of coin finds, issuers, types, denominations, within the archaeological contexts reveal the fact that only one-two coins may lead the archaeologist into a chronological pitfall, while a group of more than five single coin finds may provide a better chronology of the context(s).At the same time the analysis of coin finds by contexts may reveal certain human behaviour in coin use for daily transactions as well as various monetary policies at certain times.
