Summary/Abstract: Purpose – The aim of this study is to examine the effect of excessive workload perceptions experienced by private sector employees on their burnout. In this effect, the mediating role of the self-efficacy and resilience skills of the employees will also be examined. Design/methodology/approach – The sample of the study consists of 560 people working in the private sector in Isparta Province. Questionnaire method was used to collect data in the study. Questionnaires were applied using the snowball method. Confirmatory factor analysis was performed to make the data suitable for structural equation modeling. Pearson correlation analysis was used to test the relationships between the variables used in the study. In order to test the research model, the structural equation model analysis obtained from the AMOS program was performed. Findings – According to the results of the correlation analysis, significant relationships were found between the participants' excessive workload, burnout and resilience. A significant relationship was found between self-efficacy and resilience only. According to the results of the SEM analysis conducted within the framework of the established model, it was seen that the work overload perceptions of the participants had a positive and significant effect on their burnout, while it had a negative effect on their resilience. It was found that the resilience of the participants had a mediating role in the effect of work overload perceptions on burnout. In addition, it is another result of the research that the burnout level of female employees is higher than that of male employees, and the resilience and self-efficacy levels of male employees are higher than female employees. Discussion In line with the findings of the study, it can be said that resilience and self-efficacy skills, which are among the components of psychological capital, may have a curative effect to reduce the impact of work overload on burnout as well as many negative organizational and individual effects. The findings of the study were discussed in the light of the results obtained from previous studies and the literature.
