Summary/Abstract: This paper focusses on two distinct aspects of German language and grammar acquisition. First it deals with the innovative strategy of grammar teaching, the so called SOS method and secondly with the importance of chunking in the acquisition of German as a foreign language. SOS stands for the German words Sammeln (collecting/saving), Ordnen (organizing) and Systematisieren (systematizing). This strategy as well as chunking sustain autonomous learning, thus being an important goal for both learners and teachers of German.
