Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses paratextual settings of Polish translations of contemporary Spanish writer Vicente Blasco Ibáñez, who proved to be the most often published Spanish author in Poland (23 book editions – not including reissues – in 1905-1984). The author pays attention both to informational paratexts and commercial ones, analyzing their features in two separate periods: till 1939 and after 1945, when, in the climax of Stalinist period, a “pass” to the Polish reading public was an ideological preface by the translator – that played the role of “visa” in a “passport” (i.e. in the translation itself). Hence the author’s suggestion to provide the terminology concerning informational paratexts with additional, evaluative signs (“+” or “-“), which would place particular formulations in the wider cultural contexts. For paratextual information can be also a disinformation due to its propagandistic tinge, going far beyond the author’s message embedded in the work itself.
