Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the problem of Słowacki’s connections with mystic tradition, based on the analysis of the concept of Absolute particularly in Genezis z Ducha (The Genesis from the Spirit), apparently the most crucial philosophical work from the later part of the poet’s creation. There is a necessity to verify the poet’s connections with mysticism, as, by now, literary historians have been using modernists’ assumptions about his being as mystic, thus making Słowacki’s ‘mysticism’ a commonly accepted notion, which is mainly due to Ignacy Matuszewski and Jan G. Pawlikowski’s 19th century findings. Now it is high time to verify the old assumptions in the context of contemporary religious studies concerning mysticism. According to them, mystic cognition is the outcome of the relation between the subject and trascendentality. The article reveals how different the vision of Absolute is in Słowacki’s works and in other mystics’ works. Then the question arises, whether Słowacki was a mystic at all, which seems an interdisciplinary issue. Perhaps, Słowacki’s spiritual phenomenon should find a new formula, to define the poet’s view of the 40s which was a universal and spiritual vision of the world. Yet, the author does not provide any univocal proposals but finds it necessary to verify the category of mysticism in Juliusz Słowacki’s work.
