Summary/Abstract: Tim Burton is one of the most interesting American film directors. The driving force of his films is the use of pastiche and irony, the elevation and sublimation of the kitsch and the camp, and the use of quotes and allusions. At the same time Burton displays an incredible consequence in his themes, questions and obsessions. Maciejewski points to the originality of Burton the director, who uses pop-culture in order to play an intelligent game of multiple meanings. According to Maciejewski Burton is, in the contemporary cinema, a seller of myths that lie in the rubbish dump of pop-culture. But in the hands of the maker of Beetlejuice they are always combined with clever literary, philosophical and psychological allusions.
