Summary/Abstract: Jewish Hell, the Sheol, was very different from the subsequent image the Christians later gave it. Starting from a comparative analysis with other cultures of the time (Mesopotamian, Babylonian, Egyptian) and the use of such concepts as divine justice and punishment, the author provides extremely interesting details regarding the Jews' view of the other realm and the evolution towards the current image and significance of Hell.
