Summary/Abstract: Lithuania and Poland for centuries have been tied not only by their common history, but also by the concurrence of their religious faith and the coexistence of their cultures. Polish language has widely prevailed and has been used in a major part of Lithuania for many years. It could be demonstrated by the life of the Roman Catholic Church in Lithuania, its liturgy, rituals, and songs. Antanas Baranauskas (1835-1902) – a bishop, poet, composer of lyrics and songs, the author of a famous poem „Boscage of Anykšciai” – was a brightest and most talented personality of the second part of XIX. century who inspired the Lithuanian culture to grow by bridging it with the Polish cul-ture. His creativity is an inestimable contribution to the treasury of Lithuanian and Polish religious music of XIX. century which testifies the affinity of both nations. The article presents the quality and range of the legacy of A. Baranauskas.
