Summary/Abstract: The aim of enhancing the quality of the higher education system determines the university institutions to focus on the graduates’ outcomes upon entering the labor market. The dynamics of the labor market can become premises for higher unemployment rates. In order for the universities to be able to adapt to the requirements of the labor market there is a strong need to continuously analyze the changes of the occupational structure and employers’ expectations. The present paper offers an analysis of the dynamics in the occupational structure, occupational standards, and the graduates’ labor market outcomes in a developing country. It focuses on the positions occupied by higher education graduates and the occupational background of the unemployed persons. Romania shows a stronger correlation between educational attainment of the graduates and the positions filled after employment. The employers’ opinions upon the meaning of graduate jobs show that this concept is dependent on job requirements and complexity of the tasks.
