Summary/Abstract: Increased global competition, added to technological advances and downturns in national economies, has led many organizations to seek to re-invent and change themselves in the hope of being able to survive and thrive. In choosing their organizations response to the unprecedented change rhythm, leaders and their teams have to reasonably address the issue of selecting, developing and managing the most effective change strategy. A vast array of fundamentally different or apparently similar change theories, models and concepts has been developed by academics and practitioners of the change management filed. The understanding, evaluation and subsequent adoption of a change strategy by an organization is rendered difficult by the overwhelming number of these approaches and by their reported minimal rate of success. However, using change strategies accurately has been demonstrated to affect the success or failure of a change effort. Yet professionals tend to use whatever change theory or approach they are familiar with or that is popular at the time. The purpose of this article is, therefore, to provide a selective literature review of change management theories and approaches and suggest a practical documented manner to choose among them , with the underlining intent to contribute towards creating a more explicit organizational change management framework .
