Summary/Abstract: In the article, I refer to selected definitions and theories of self-realization in the area of pedagogy and psychology (especially positive psychology). I also mention several theories of human needs, which include the need for self-realization as a separate category. Then, I compile the inhibitors of the self-realization process proposed by the representatives of the aforementioned disciplines (specifically Abraham Maslow) or analyzed by modern researchers-psychologists, i.e.: the impostor syndrome, the Jonah complex, tall poppy syndrome, crab mentality. The described inhibitors are mainly relevant to the area of interpersonal interactions and might appear within social groups, e.g. in the workplace environment.
