Summary/Abstract: In „Adam and Eve”, Liviu Rebreanu explores the complex nuances of the androgynous myth, building his entire novel on the idea that an individual´s supreme purpose is finding and reconnecting (on a physical level too) with his/ her soul mate. Nevertheless, this is a purpose that cannot be fulfilled during a single lifespan, so one has to go through seven reincarnations in order to achieve the longed for happiness. In this context, the novel follows the seven reincarnations of university professor Toma Novac, and depicts each of this soul´s attempts at reuniting with his loved one.
