Summary/Abstract: The present study analyzes the concept of family, which has a great power upon people by educating, changing and influencing mankind. This is not different in Rudolfo Anaya’s novel entitled ”Bless Me, Ultima”. The book gives us access to a different cultural and literary context, that is the Chicano one. It presents a certain type of family, the typical and traditional Chicano family. Due to the cultural context, the Márez family appears to be different. The mother is a strong believer, the father is driven by freedom and the children are trapped between the two parents’ own identities. The main male character, the youngest child, undergoes a series of challenges to become an adult and develop his own identity, which is strongly influenced by his family and Ultima, the female protagonist of the novel.
