Summary/Abstract: Hanya Yanagihara’s novel “A Little Life”, published in 2015, and a winner of the Kirkus Prize for fiction proves to be impossible to categorize in an established literary pattern. This article is an attempt to identify pivotal interwoven elements of a fable, a naturalistic novel and a thriller. Jude St Francis’ incredibly dark tale, New York life and mentality, disease, self-mutilation and decay are component parts of a new kind of fiction, which we dare name hyper realism. In addition, the author aims at demonstrating that beyond all the constraints imposed by literary theory “A Little Life” is an honest timeless book about friendship and loneliness in equal measure.
