Summary/Abstract: The present study analyzes the concept of family, which has a great power upon everybody’s life. Louise Erdrich’s novel entitled ”The Antelope Wife” brings together multifarious nuanced family relationships in the Ojibwa Native American context. The concepts of fatherhood and motherhood are under analysis. The study shows how being related to your child does not have to do with becoming a good father. The novel also reflects upon the dark side of motherhood when life becomes complicated and a mother cannot quit. At last, the paper presents the unbreakable bond between twins, the loss of a sibling, how to move on after such a tragedy, the deterioration of a father-daughter relationship. These complex aspects show how nuanced really are family relationships.
