Summary/Abstract: Ludwik Opacki was born in 1786 into a petty gentry family in Volhynia and died in 1854 in Mykolaiv. Between 1827 and 1831 he worked as an architect for the Building Commission of the Black Sea Admiralty Department, and was later appointed as the municipal architect of Mykolaiv. Between 1839 and 1850 Opacki was employed as the architect of the Southern District of the city’s maritime facilities. In addition to a number of port and city facilities (shipyard, foundry, rope factory, crossing the Bohu liman, Marine Hospital, warehouses and others), Opatsky made designs for the new Cathedral Church, as well as numerous designs for private buildings. In 1838, according to Opacki’s design, the construction of the Church of the Holy Mother of God “All Sorrowful Joys” began, it was consecrated on 28 July 1843.
