Summary/Abstract: Language and food are tightly connected. As part of our daily experience, our culinary traditions and cultures are shaped by the discourses we create on them. Via translation, virtual and digital spaces have become instrumental sites for disseminating culinary discourses with deep roots in cultural history. As this study clearly shows, Wikipedia communities rely on a long history of translations and intercultural relations. From a discourse analysis perspective, this paper focuses on the representation of global French cuisine in four Wikipedia articles (French, Spanish, English, and Polish) dedicated to the prominent dish Boeuf bourguignon. Our corpus aims at shedding light on contemporary translation and discursive practices that contribute to representing cultural identities. By focusing on cultural-bound terms (culturemes), intertextuality, and multilingual sources, our study foregrounds translation as a tool for cultural representation beyond traditional source-text dichotomies.
