Summary/Abstract: The aim of the research presented in the article was to analyse the state of economic awareness of consumers of financial market services in Poland. Lack of the awareness often leads to irrational behaviours, as well as violating the norms of financial law. The presented analysis, as well as quoted source materials, confirm that the society’s possession of appropriate knowledge in the field of economics and finance brings benefits in the entire economy, e.g., increasing the level of savings, as well as consumers’ behaviour on the market, who may be more attentive to incurring liabilities, or they are also aware of the risks of using non-banking sector institutions. Educational activities shaping consumers’ behaviour should be simultaneously supported by the state regulating the functioning of the financial services market on which external factors, such as the effects of the financial crisis from 2008–2009, often cause “turmoil”.
