Summary/Abstract: The aim of research, led by Social Work Unit, University of Silesia, was an attempt to evaluate the efficiency of the new social integration instrument – Local Activity Programs. The focus of the research, effectuated in three towns of Silesian Voivodship-Bytom, Katowice and Ruda Śląska was to get an answer to the fundamental question: are the actions addressed to the excluded populations, undertaken in Local Activity Programs making use of methods of community organizing and what is the impact of these actions on the larger communities? Presented case studies: Local Activity Programs led in two communities in Katowice-Nikiszowiec and Bagno, in two communities of Bytom-Bobrek and Rozbark and one in Ruda Slaska-Kaufhaus – showed the weakness and strengths of these Programs, the conditions which had and still have impact on their course and the efficacy of Local Activity Programs as a tool for active integration and community problem - solving.
