Summary/Abstract: This article characterizes the essence of the strategic security environment. The strategic security environment is a comprehensive concept and multifaceted, it also has a social dimension, which additionally makes it difficult to comprehensively defi ne what it actually is. These difficulties are also relatively much related to the factor of subjective feelings and the difference in the interpretation of threats. Therefore, it is believed that security, security environment, and thus the essence of these concepts (areas) is a complex process, resulting from a certain system, but also a group of entities (states), organizations, or various social groups. Security is a primary existential need but also a value of individuals, social groups and states (entities). This security, however, is not only about the survival of integrity or independence, but also for development that protects and enriches the identity of the individual and the nation (subject). It depends on what is happening around us, on the external environment from which possible threats may come. Safety also depends on ourselves, our health and our readiness to face such threats.
