Summary/Abstract: The article contributes to the debate on the relationship between ecocide and genocide. The author points to the insufficiency of the prevailing international law definition ofgenocide, according to which only groups of people can be victims of genocide. Referencingthe definition of genocide by Raphael Lemkin and the philosophy of indigenous cultures, the author argues that genocide can also strike non-human members of the community. If we accept the assumption that everything is interconnected and that the universe isa living entity, then ecocide is not just one of the genocidal methods but is itself an actof genocide. Furthermore, the author delineates the desired legal changes that shouldresult from decolonizing genocide.
