Summary/Abstract: The author claims that the contemporary crisis of the humanities, which, in his view, is rooted in a reductionist vision of the world, has generated in the West a widespread interest in Eastern mysticism. He also points to the fact that Far Eastern infl uences are transformed so as to appeal to a Western mass audience and, as a shallow pseudo-mysticism, exert a harmful effect on mental health.
