Summary/Abstract: Introduction: Pediatric multisystem inflammatory syndrome (PIMS) is a new disease entity that has not yet been fully investigated. The aim of this study is to characterize patients in terms of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and symptoms, which can direct nursing care. Material and methods: The method of medical documentation analysis was used. The study group consisted of 50 patients, predominantly male, the mean age was 8.32±4.40 years. Results: PIMS was diagnosed on average 3±5 days after the start of hospitalization. The most common symptoms were asthenia (88%), rash (80%), conjunctival injection (68%), red lips (66%), abdominal pain (60%). Laboratory tests were performed on average 4±3 times during hospitalization. Conclusions: In the care of a patient with PIMS, the nursing staff should be particularly involved in diagnostics and therapy, performing a therapeutic function, which is indicated by numerous and repeated diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. The multitude of symptoms indicates the importance of the caring function.
