Summary/Abstract: RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The purpose of the analysis is to draw attention to the aspect of the need to prepare people professionally involved in education to support children and youth in crisis or traumatic situations. THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: The research belongs to the area of the interpretative paradigm and the research method adopted is a qualitative content analysis of the literature on the subject and a theoretical analysis of the phenomena under discussion, specifically a hermeneutic approach assuming an in-depth understanding of educational processes taking into account the issue of the child with difficulties as well as pedeutological issues. THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: The consequences characteristic for emotional crises and traumas and their impact on the child’s school functioning will be shown. Then, the portrait of the traumatised pupil will be contrasted with the reality of school and the readiness and capacity of teachers to work with them. RESEARCH RESULTS: The school as an institution is legally obliged to provide access to education for all students, but these arrangements are not always sufficient. Thus, the key role of the teacher, who becomes one of the most important chain of support given to pupils in the educational coexistence with them, becomes crucial. CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS: The challenges facing the modern school require professionals involved in the education of children and youth to be prepared to work skillfully and give support to students in many aspects, also in terms of the mental health crisis.
