Summary/Abstract: The article analyses history textbooks for special primary schools in terms of basic approaches to the presentation of history. The article takes note of the criteria stated in the educational program for pupils with mental disabilities and the Recommendation of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe (emphasis on national history, European connections, elimination of prejudices and criminal ideologies). Current history textbooks meet the given criteria in terms of factography. In the future, it will be necessary to reform the curriculum itself. The weak formation of the citizen dimension proved to be a problem.
