Summary/Abstract: The proposed study explores the evolution of household expenditures in the agri-food sector in Romania, using data from the period 2001 to 2021 and the average monthly net salary as a reference. The analysis highlights a constant increase in the average salary, but also a series of fluctuations in the share of expenses allocated to agri-food products in the total consumption. Additionally, the research identifies a significant influence of the COVID-19 pandemic on consumption habits, leading to an increase in spending on these products. The obtained results are of major importance for decision-makers, providing them with insights into how economic fluctuations and major events, such as financial crises and pandemics, can impact consumer behavior regarding the purchase of agri-food products. Moreover, this information is relevant for a deeper understanding of household expenditure dynamics and can contribute to the adoption of more efficient economic policies tailored to current needs.
