Contemporary Threats to Democracy: The Socio-Economic Aspect

Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the contemporary threats to democracy in the socio-economic aspect. It addresses the issue of cultural diversity in the world, the problems of globalization, populism and social inequalities. It focuses especially on populism, which has recently been used to democratically gain power in some countries through universal elections, and afterwards to implement authoritarian and so-called illiberal democracy.
