Summary/Abstract: The article constitutes an attempt at identifying the period and circumstances in which Giovanni Battista Gisleni (1600–1672) created some designs for secular buildings, now held at Sir John Soane’s Museum in London, Castello Sforzesco in Milan and Staatliche Kunstsammlungen in Dresden, as well as the intended use of those buildings, shown against the background of the 17th-century development of architecture in Italy and in Poland.
