Summary/Abstract: The author found notebooks of cooking recipes from her mother and aunt. The notebooks are handwritten and date to the period following World War II. The importance of the notebooks consists in the fact that they are a testimony of how the young ladies of good families prepare themselves for the life of housewife of the house. The interest of notebooks, however, lies above all in the language used, which differs from the one that has become standard in culinary recipes. The language used is close to spoken language and there is no shortage of loanwords. After a description of the notebook, the language and style of some recipes are specifically examined. It is a private document that constitutes, however, an example of how people ate or wanted to eat in the 1940s of the twentieth century.
