Summary/Abstract: The author analyzes a large corpus of words from the field of music in the Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri, examining the differences in occurrences in the three cantos and justifying these differences. An analysis of lexemes is presented according to the approach of cognitive linguistics, specifically the semasiological approach and the onomasiological one. While the word "music" is not attested, the term “canto” with its own and metaphorical value is widespread. The network of semantic relations shows considerable ambiguity, as shown in Casella’s canto, the second in Purgatory. The work intends to somehow enter the creative laboratory of the Poet, demonstrating how, on the one hand, he innovates and, on the other hand, how he takes into account the tradition.
