Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to present skills and traits that facilitate effective communication between the teacher and the student, especially the so-called resistant student. The first step I take is to define a phenomenon that we call interpersonal communication. Next, I will indicate the philosophical and ethical conditions of communication and propose competences that the teachers (broadly understood educators) should have in order for their communication with a young person to be effective. These are: openness as revealing how a person reacts to the current situation and providing information from the past that is important for understanding current reactions; ability to create a climate of trust; ability to express feelings; modeling interpersonal skills, i.e. learning from other people through imitation. The next step is to outline how teachers can implement the abovementioned competences. Then – against the background of previous considerations – I will characterize the so-called group resistance, which is often a challenge for the teacher. The next step will be to propose methods of dealing with resistance. For this purpose I will recall Aristotle and his characteristics of young age.
