Summary/Abstract: This paper deals with the ever-increasingly important topic of so-called ‘cold cases’ but the perspective of the workis different from most publications on this issue, namely it is the perspective of comparative criminology and criminal justice.Specifically, after presenting some data on this topic from Poland and the United States, the authors undertake a comparativeanalysis of the issue of ‘cold cases’ in both countries, especially the issue of cold case squads. Even though the legal systemsof Poland and the United States are different in so many regards, the authors looked for possible similarities between the twocountries regarding ‘cold cases’. The authors also focused on some differences between the two countries and analysed them withinthe larger context of comparative criminology and criminal justice. The authors close their paper with reflections on possibleimplications of the findings from this study for law enforcement in both Poland and the United States
