Summary/Abstract: The publication describes the use of the Private Military Companies (PMC) in con- temporary armed conflicts. The increase in demand for service companies of this type was shown and the increase in their number in the period after the end of the Cold War was presented. The publication presents who are the employees of PMC companies and what services these companies provide. It describes why countries use the PMC as a replacement for the classic use of soldiers in hostilities. Selected examples of private military companies, their wide range of services provided, possible specializations of the activities performed, and examples of equipment at their disposal were also presented. Possible advantages and disadvantages of using the services provided by PMC are described. Finally the possibility of establishing and using companies of these type in the situation of the Republic of Poland was also presented for consideration.
