Summary/Abstract: A reply to the questionnaire on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Teksty Drugie: my personal views on literature, literary studies and other issues of consequence. Literature is inseparable from death, sense and understanding – it is literature that opens them up for us, or opens us towards them. Thus, as an object of study, it must always remain within the horizon of reflection on life and death; sense and understanding.
