Summary/Abstract: Review of Jana Kordys’s book 'Kategorie antropologiczne i tożsamość narracyjna. Szkice z pogranicza neurosemiotyki i historii kultury' [‘Anthropological categories and narrative identity. Essays at the borderline of neurosemiotics and cultural history’] (Universitas, Cracow, 2006; ‘Horyzonty Nowoczesności’ [‘Horizons of Modernity’] series). The reviewer holds the book in high esteem, describing it as a research and scholarly achievement of import to several disciplines in the humanities that tend to integrate around the issue of ‘practical first-person philosophy’ or the question, ‘How do I know I am myself’ – which requires that ‘another person inside myself’ and ‘myself inside another person’ be discovered. Mr. Kordys seeks answers to these questions as he wanders across various scientific disciplines, supported by his excellent erudite background and a great gift of analysing and synthesising.
