Summary/Abstract: A reply to the questionnaire on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Teksty Drugie: my personal views on literature, literary studies and other issues of consequence. On the need of a historical turn in the face of contemporary changes in the meaning and functions of literature: literature needs to be opened up and mediated by individual and unexpected perspectives. In order to gain access to historical memory, the literary heritage needs to be depicted in such individual and imaginative perspectives, unrestricted by the weight of archives and textbook requirements.
