Summary/Abstract: This essay describes the way the literary-theoretical notion of ‘gender’ has made from the West to the East. Perils and limits of the present-day studies are outlined, particularly with respect to research carried out by external observer. A possible solution is tracked in extension of the ‘gender’ notion to (the) nation.
