Summary/Abstract: Geography, geodesy and topography developed during the Renaissance, an era in which the concept of the zero meridian was introduced, mathematized and drawn in those years by German scientists as that meridian that passed through the two geographic poles (the North Pole and the South Pole) and through Oradea (former fortress Varadinum) dividing the World Map into the two hemispheres (the Eastern Hemisphere and the Western Hemisphere). This article provides a historical overview of the concept of Zero Meridian, of geography, geodesy and topography, as well as of man's spatio-temporal orientation through the reduced-scale representation of the Earth and its portions. The emergence and development of the scientific support of navigation and topography is also presented.
