TRANSLATING ANDRUHOVICH

Summary/Abstract: The authors of the article share some impressions and observations they have experienced while working on the translation of two novels by the modern Ukrainian writer Yuriy Andruhovich, namely, Moskoviada (published in 2009) and Twelve Hoops/Rings/Belts/ (forthcoming). Conclusions concerning the author’s style are made, some specific translation difficulties are pointed out, e.g., the abundance of realia in the text, the use of foreign language expressions, colloquial language, jargon etc. An attempt to classify the realia is suggested which is rendered through footnotes in order to facilitate the reader.
