Summary/Abstract: This article focuses on translation of proper nouns – words used for an individual person, town, object, place etc. Proper names, quite often, are translated /are delivered to another language/ by transcription, or by transliteration. In cases when names have specific meanings, these names are being either entirely translated, or just partially. This way, the recipient /the reader, or the listener of translation/ receives information about the meaning of the character’s name. Examples of anthroponyms, toponyms, names coming from another “third” language, proper nouns with specific meanings, idioms with first names, and others are examined in the text.
