Summary/Abstract: This article aims to examine the current legal framework regulating the management of public medical institutions in Bulgaria, as set out in the recently adopted Public Enterprises Act and its implementing regulations. Interesting examples of the organisation of the activities of medical institutions in some EU countries and Israel will be examined in a comparative context. I will focus in more detail on public medical institutions in Turkey, due to the increasing number of Bulgarian citizens who choose to be treated there.
