Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the issue of managing people in organisations, with particular reference to the Polish Police. As theauthors note, since the political changes in 1989 and the enactment of the Police Act, there has been an increased interest in improvingleadership effectiveness in all types of organisations responsible for security. Areas of particular interest have become leadership,flexibility of behaviour related to the dynamically changing environment and leadership styles. In doing so, there has been a growinginterest in leadership theories that could be applied to managerial practice. The theoretical models offered to managers, while not beingready-made models of behaviour, should be a helpful tool when assessing situations and making appropriate decisions. The articledescribes the models and determinants of managerial decision-making. The results of studies conducted in 1994–1996, 2013 and2021–2022, based on the conditional model of managerial effectiveness developed in 1964 by F.E. Fiedler, are presented and compared
